This February, Oaken Lab joined SUN.CONTEMPORARY and SHELTER in supporting Sungai Watch, a movement dedicated to cleaning Bali’s rivers and protecting its waterways. The Sungai Watch Charity Exhibition, opening February 23, 2025, brings together 21 artists from around the world, uniting creativity with environmental action.

For Oaken Lab, this moment is about more than scent, it’s about the objects and rituals that shape our daily lives, and how they can carry deeper meaning.

The Limited-Edition Incense Holder

In collaboration with Sungai Design, we present a piece where ritual meets responsibility. Once discarded, now given new purpose, this incense holder is crafted from recycled plastic bags collected by Sungai Watch, combined with stainless steel scraps left over from the construction of our Pererenan store.

Each holder uses the equivalent of 15 plastic bags, transformed by hand into a tactile object that invites quiet reflection while holding the weight of environmental impact. It’s both a functional ritual tool and a statement of intention, proof that design can carry responsibility as beautifully as it carries form.

The Exhibition Experience

The charity exhibition will feature commissioned works by Ricky Lee Gordon and Ines Katamso, immersive installations by Sungai Watch, and a series of events from workshops to talks, culminating in an intimate dining experience. A portion of all sales, from art to food, will directly support Sungai Watch’s conservation programs.

Through this collaboration, we invite you to experience the meeting point between craft, sustainability, and collective action, where every choice, no matter how small, can help shape a cleaner future.
